Standing in the Sun reflects a moment of embracing God’s light. As a mother holds her child, she is protected by greens and plants that are used to echo healing and growth throughout life. She stands through the peaks of sun rays as she recognizes the light in herself. As a black woman, a mother, a daughter, a sister, a best friend. As Kiah.
Simone Bryant is an artist born in Detroit Michigan. She specializes in paintings but is not limited to one form. Her art primarily focuses on Black culture as she tells stories through the use of a vibrant color palette. Once Simone committed to color she realized there was more that she wanted to explore through old family photographs to give nostalgic tones to her paintings. However, there became a nuance of recreating moments that she wasn’t always a part of. Simone’s family and close relationships are often subjects of her work and she takes pride in shooting her subjects unless they come from a personal archive. Simone’s artwork has been featured in Griffin’s Garden; Chroma Detroit; Gallery 46; Womxnhouse Detroit; Design Studio 6 & Norwest Gallery of Art.
